[Star Trek RPG] Guidelines/Info; Please read if you want to participate.
Basic Info:
Star dates
I'm using the newest and least confusing way to count a star date. It goes by the year being the first four numbers before the decimal, and the day of the year going after the decimal. Today would be 2013.74 (or thereabouts depending on where you're from). It's not entirely relevant, seeing as climate/time doesn't really matter when you're in space on a star ship (and the star date formatting has been changed several times throughout Star Trek).
As far as the star date of our first episode, that will take place in year 2219. Star date 2219.97. This will put us in a time before the original series, but after the Enterprise series (which I didn't watch, but it doesn't matter lol).
Our ship, the UES Enterprise (NRC-01)
Full: The United Earth Starfleet Enterprise. The NRC-01 stands for Enterprise Recommissioned 01.
Our ship does not exist in the real Star Trek universe(s) because I want stray away from canonical issues. It is an improvement from the ship Enterprise (NX-01) from the Enterprise series, and the basis for what will become the USS Enterprise from TOS. We are the first to embark on this specific ship.
Excuse my crude/quick drawing, but I wanted you guys to have an idea on what the ship looked like.
And just for future reference, our ship can travel up to Warp Speed 8, but is unable to accelerate past Warp Speed 6 without facing danger of the ship exploding. Phasers, torpedoes, and deflector shields are significantly short-ranged and weaker than previously, but it evens out since everyone else in the galaxy is also many years behind as well .
Crew/characters
The main crew will be:
Role/rank
Captain/Captain
*I don't think explanation is necessary for this.
Science officer/First officer and commanding officer (not required to be a Vulcan, for the record)
*This person will be first man/woman to the captain and be expected to know essentially everything.
Chief medical officer/Lieutenant commander
*This person will be in charge of medical issues and all other medical personell
Chief engineer/Lieutenant commander
*This person will be in charge of all of the engineering department, and expected to make sure that the ship runs smoothly.
Chief communications officer/Lieutenant
*This person will be in charge of all communications and is expected to be well-versed in Klingon (not in real life)
Helmsman/Lieutenant
*This person is in charge of firing the ships phasers and torpedoes on the captains command, and steering the ship and controlling it's speed.
Tell me in this thread which character role you would like to fill.
How each episode will work.
Note: This RPG is not intended to be exceedingly long due to the fact that I'd like to have several episodes. I'm not sure yet how long each will be, and that all depends on the frequency of posting and story progression.
Each episode will begin with the captain stating the star date, specific info about the mission etc. I will also include an OOC at the end to give some guidance as to what you should post next. It won't be nearly as convoluted as it sounds, I promise lol.
Some characters may not come into play right away, so don't get discouraged. I'll do my best to address everyone quickly, but it might prove difficult. A lot of the time, I think it will end up being a landing party of the active characters (along with some NPCs), with some characters staying aboard and acting from there. Don't worry though, I'll include that in the first post.
Each of you will chose a role that you want to play (since I am GM, I'm going to take the captain's position, makes sense). If you have questions about the specifics of how a certain role will work, please ask me and I will explain it in depth, though I don't think you'll have any troubles. While some people are technically higher ranked than others, that won't come into play very often. Everyone will be treated with equal respect, so don't worry about that. The ranks are really only there for the "official" setting of it all.
I realize that there's a good chance that this episode will not be completed in it's entirety. That happens a lot with RPG's, so if this were to end incomplete, more than likely, I will write in an ending and ask for the thread the be closed. Hopefully after that, I'll be able to start another one. This is going to be a learning process for us all. I've never set up a structured RPG like this before, so we will all just need to be patient with one another.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Guidelines
Posting
Please post at least once a day. I know that sometimes that isn't possible, so don't worry if you can't. We get things like real life interference, writer's block, and general confusion that happen all the time in RPGs.
No short posts. Now, I don't want you to feel like you have to write an essay every time you sit down to enjoy yourself in a little RPG action. I would like to see posts with depth though. For this RPG, a paragraph will be at minimum 5 sentences long. I'd like to see at least two paragraphs for each post, but any post with conversation should have one paragraph to accompany it.
No exceedingly lengthy posts. No one wants to read a short story every time someone posts.
No "internet" speak. If I see anyone type "u" instead of "you", I will set my phasers to kill, if you know what I mean.
Grammar, guys. I know that some of us are not native English speakers, but try your best. If your posts are confusing, there's going to be a lack of ability to respond to them. If you think that you might confuse someone with what you're saying, put an OOC at the bottom of your post to explain what you mean. Also, everyone, if you are confused by what someone says, tell them.
Other Basics
Character thread. I will be creating a character thread for us to post our characters. Do not post anything but your characters in the thread. I will have to approve your characters before we post (don't worry, I'll post a character format with the info I want to know.)
Out of Character Thread. I will have a separate thread for any out of character discussion that we might have.
These are just guidelines. Don't be overwhelmed. I just want this to run smoothly, so try not to think of them as "rules" and get discouraged. I just want everyone to be on the same page

Just the idea, but should`nt we have an software expert as well - or as an NPC? Because such advanced ship will require both - mechanical and software engineering to keep it running

There is no such title in Star Trek, the science officer also presides over the software

Dibs on Chief Medical Officer if that hasn't been taken yet.
Re: [Star Trek RPG] Guidelines/Info; Please read if you want to participate.
It was taken, but if you want, you can ask KW to switch you, I have no problems with this. I'll post the roles that have been taken already.
Get a character up! You and Inc are slow

I'll go with Science Officer then.
I'd better cobble together that character sheet. Pronto.

Well, I announced it in Spam and no one really seemed interested besides KW, you, and Eph. Inc had to back out because of real life business and SJ couldn't even start because of real life business.
