Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
well as long as it comes in rainbow hues it's all good. Lasers only come in red don't they?
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
Naw, they can be other colours, kinda like the different light sabers in Star Wars.
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
I will answer that seriuosly ( ):
wavelength 650 nanometers: red lasser
wavelength 532 nanometers: green laser
wavelength 445-460 nanometers: blue laser
wavelength 405 nanometers: violet
wavelength 589nm nanometers: yellow
less than 400: UV
more than 750: infrared

Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
^^Sure, but in the movies they're almost always red. Are you claiming that Hollywood is inaccurate?!?!!?!?
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
it seems that red is most common... at least pointers are all red (all that I've seen)...
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
Well, red makes laser go faster. Everybody knows that! Duh!
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
that makes no sense at all... else why would they use red for stoplights?
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
speed of light is the same, nomatter the color...
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
NO. Red is FASTER. So there.
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
Red is faster in fantasy and not in scifi... therein lies the difference between the genres
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
so, if I paint my bullet red, I have better chances in duel?
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
Only if you live in a fantasy world.JNK wrote:so, if I paint my bullet red, I have better chances in duel?

Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
I, however, live in the real world. Sigh.
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
well imagine:
Me watching "Walking dead", reading S. King's "Black house" and playing Fallout 3... I ought to have nightmares, I think. Instead I had a dream of spending some time with Jennifer Lopez, Robbie Williams and dude from Gambino family (wtf?) on the roof of a gas station (even more wtf?)... I'd prefer Lopez alone, but it wasn't scary at all... just WTF?

Weirdest dream I ever had was one of people who had V-shaped heads. Other V-shaped-head people would pour salt and vinegar chips (crisps for all you Europeans) in the V-heads of their buddies and then eat them with knives and forks (they'd eat the chips, not the people). Talk about what the fudge......??????
Now that's definitely fantasy, not sci fi! Unless they were aliens...hmmmmmm
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
for me it's chips not crisps (I reckon that's british?).,..
Re: What do you believe to be the defining line between fantasy and sci-fi?
Canadian definitions:
Chips: deep fried, often-flavoured, thinly sliced potatoes that come in sealed foil bags.
Crisps: an unfortunate cooking accident - you know it's bad when even the racoons won't eat it after spilling your compost bin (true story )
French Fries: Long rectangular cut potatoes that are deep fried. (Unless they are served with battered, deep fried fish in which case they are called "chips")
Clear as mud huh?
