Event Horizon
Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see. Or whatever the quote is
Other than Alien, this is my favourite sci-fi horror movie. I don't care how awful most people think it is, this movie gave me nightmares for weeks. I was terrified while I was watching it, and left with that "HELL YEAH" feeling when it ended. I love this movie. I saw it directly after I finished the Alien Anthology, and it's probably the movie that really got me back into sci-fi. That's a very good thing because I had taken a far too long break from watching great sci-fi movies and TV shows.

Re: Event Horizon
Wow. I wish I'd been able to get as much enjoyment out of this film as you clearly did, liv. I just don't know what it is about it but unfortunately I was bored all the way through.
Re: Event Horizon
Wow, that's extremely depressing, Eph.

Re: Event Horizon
I know. I may have to go and drown my sorrows in something liquidy and agreeable now. Sigh.
Re: Event Horizon
I'll drink enough for both of us, that depressed me so.

it's not typical horror... it's scifi horror (not that scary, but nice as scifi)
Re: Event Horizon
Sci-Fi horrors are special because there's so much that you can do with them. They're wonderful, in my opinion, because the scariest Sci-Fi thing you can think of usually is something that messes with your head... which is what Event Horizon did the first time I saw it. I was all OMG WAT IS THIS. I was really entertained.
I can recognize when I movie isn't good though, and I know Even Horizon wasn't. But to me, as long as I'm entertained, I feel like it was good. If that makes sense? I just really enjoyed and still enjoy watching that movie.

Re: Event Horizon
Whatever the general consensus is about the movie's quality really shouldn't matter. That you enjoy it should be your only concern. That's my take anyway.
For example, while Transformers: The Movie (1986) is generally regarded as being not very good, I absolutely love it. It's one of my favourite animated films of all time, and I watch it at least once a year.

Funny how you can recognize that something isn't good, but it can still be good to you. Ah perception.

I find that not nearly enough people are able to make this distinction. Kinda depressing really.olivia_the_vulcan wrote:Funny how you can recognize that something isn't good, but it can still be good to you. Ah perception.
Re: Event Horizon
I agree. I feel like the snobbery involved in being a fan of something is really depressing. I've had people put me down for liking movies/tv/shows/books that weren't "good". I'm wondering why it matters. I don't put people down for liking things. At least not to their face :p But seriously, it's sad.

Re: Event Horizon
It's all well and good to joke about other people's tastes, but only as long as we're also able to joke about our own.
And it can work the other way too. There have been plenty of movies/shows/books/music/games that I've recognised as quality productions but they've just not captured my attention in the same way that lesser things have. It's all relative really.

Re: Event Horizon
yeah, like Equilibrium which I meantioned in the other thread... it has crappy reviews, and apparently (sinco noone answered the thread), I'm the only one who liked it

I totally agree here. This has happened to me several times. That "But that movie was so good, Liv! How did you hate it! You're stupid!" I'm like -_-

Re: Event Horizon
I hated this movie for the same reasons Liv loved it. It freak'n gave me nightmares. I hate it when my scfi does that >.<
Obviously I need to watch this with Liv, so she can reassure me with hugs every five minutes.

I loved it. It was intriguing - It didn't give me nightmares but it creeped me out in a good way. I watch it at least once a year.
