Pirates of the Caribbean Empty Pirates of the Caribbean

Post by SJFaerlind Sat Apr 06, 2013 1:46 am

So I just finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2 with the family. It's been awhile since I saw those movies and I'd forgotten just how good they really are. Anybody else seen them and like them?

I did... but somehow for me they are more adventure than fantasy...

I quite enjoyed them too. They may have been a little on the long side, but other than that I have no complaints.

There's definitely a lot of adventure in them, but there are some strong fantasy elements too:
-the cursed Aztec gold and how the undead crew of the Black Pearl were "called" by it
- Tia Domay (probably spelled that name wrong) was pretty mystical
- the fishy crew of the Flying Dutchman
- the Flying Dutchman is kinda more like a submarine that travels between worlds
- Davey Jones' locker
- the whole heart in a box thing is pretty fantastic too...lol

I thought the humour in this movie was great and that Johnny Depp was amazing in it. I have no idea how he managed to make an eccentric, slightly effeminate pirate look all capable and noble. How he played the character of Captain Jack Sparrow shouldn't have worked but he pulled it off beautifully.
I think there's something for everyone in these films: humour, action, a love story, magic, large and nasty beasties... the list goes on and on. For entertainment value you can't go wrong.
